Software Developer for Planetariums with focus on C++ and 3D computer graphics (f/m/x)

Develop attractive products in the very popular field of astronomy and help design the next generation of 3D planetarium software.

Your Role:

You will strengthen our agile software development team and develop the image generation software for digital projection on multi-projector systems as well as the control of the devices used in planetariums. This software enables 3D visual exploration of the universe, demonstration of Earth-bound astronomy, and audio-visual content playback.

In your position, you will design components of this software and implement state-of-the-art methods of 3D computer graphics using efficient algorithms and data structures. You work in a small team with high visibility throughout the ZEISS Group and are given plenty of space for your own ideas in the design of our products.

Your Profile:

You have very successfully completed a university/university of applied sciences degree in computer science (master's or diplo-ma). You can demonstrate several years of professional experience in an agile environment as a software developer in industry or science. You have excellent programming knowledge in C++ (possibly C++11/14/17) and the C++ Standard Template Library as well as in-depth knowledge of 3D computer graphics. Terms such as Template, Lambda function, Exception, RAII, Smart Pointers, Culling, Mipmap, Volume Ray Casting and Order-independent Transparency should not be foreign to you.

Your way of working is characterised by independence, structure and a high degree of care. You have a quick understanding, analytical thinking, work well as part of a team and have good communication skills in German and English. You are happy to have direct contact with customers.

You also bring with you:
  • In-depth knowledge of the graphics APIs OpenGL (at least version 3.3) and / or Direct3D (at least version 10) and the respective shader languages
  • The mathematical foundations required in the 3D computer graphics area
  • Robust knowledge of efficient algorithms and data structures
  • Experience in developing Windows applications with Visual Studio, confident use of Git, basic knowledge of UML
