Senior Design Thinking / User Research Expert (m/f/x)

Your role at ZEISS Digital Partners:

As a Senior Design Thinking / User Research Expert, you smartly fuse research methods from different approaches such as design thinking, service design and usability research. Your project track record proves your ability to scope individual project challenges in meaningful ways and develop the optimal method mix (ideally qualitative and quantitative). You have the skillset to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes empathically and successfully.

You will play a crucial role in expanding our Design Thinking and customer research capabilities at the Digital Innovation Partners unit, scaling our approach within ZEISS, enabling other teams, and fueling ongoing innovation cycles. You will actively contribute to the digital transformation at ZEISS through close collaboration with the ZEISS business groups and their respective departments. Collaboration between international, interdisciplinary teams and roles such as researchers, designers, business experts and engineers is a critical precondition for our work – and you have the required open mindset.

You will take ownership and be responsible to guide and / or lead Design Thinking / UX research processes and teams with confidence, in close collaboration with the accountable Design Thinking / Research Lead. Your responsibilities will focus on:
  • define research questions and scope, hypotheses and plans
  • support the team with interview guidelines
  • manage / oversee recruiting (participant profiles, agency management etc.)
  • lead and conduct user research (in context and remotely), supported by team
  • synthesize key insights/observations
  • moderate workshops, e.g. ideation
  • present and communicate with key stakeholders within ZEISS
  • all this, with a passion to translate research insights into clear recommendations and designs – and ultimately implemented solutions (thinking beyond project plans).

You have:

  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience in research on user experience / design thinking for products and services within highly collaborative environments for customer centric organizations / inhouse or agency experience
  • Natural curiosity and interest in topics related to ZEISS business units (such as medical, vision care or metrology – please take a look at our website)
  • Demonstrated experience with user research / testing techniques and tools, leveraging latest tools (such as miro, userzoom, mobile video journals …)
  • Proven capabilities in moderation and presentation, conveying insights and opportunities with clear and compelling storytelling
  • Experience in defining / developing complex data platforms (from the user perspective) is a plus
  • Beyond qualitative research techniques, basic quantitative research experience is a plus
  • First-hand experience and interest to lead processes and teams, taking responsibility and managing stakeholders
  • A Master or bachelor’s degree in design, psychology, anthropology or similar professional fields, or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency in English and ideally in German as well
