Sector marketing defines ZEISS MIC customer solution strategies and strategic priorities (where to play, what to do, what not to do) that drive growth in existing and new markets. Through deep environmental analysis, sector marketing identifies important customer problems that ZEISS products and technologies have an opportunity to solve better than competitors. Through this knowledge, they guide the sales organization with the best position strategies for existing products and guide product development toward the strongest solution roadmaps in targeted sectors.

The Applications Development Engineer (ADE) strives to become a thought leader in applications in their market sector, becoming the go-to expert in the world for the usage of instruments relating to the materials science sector to help drive research and solve important problems.

The Goal is to identify and solve customer problems and needs, through advanced usage of our instruments on appropriate customer samples, arranging and managing collaborations with key customers and sector leaders and harvesting the literature for examples of pioneering applications. The ADE is directly working with the demo labs on advanced samples that come through during demonstrations.

Your role

  • Network and collaborate with application partners and key opinion leaders
  • Screen market (sub-)sector for application trends and emerging customer needs specifically in the area of engineering materials in academia
  • Support the development of marketing requirements by contributing from an apps perspective (customer job-to-be-done)
  • Support and challenge product development by providing sector-specific use cases and verify these in Beta-tests
  • Establish sales knowledge about (sub-)sector specific target applications and workflows (train)
  • Assist in the development of product positioning and create sector specific application content for sales
  • Generate high quality application notes (white papers) both for presenting at conferences and marketing collateral.
  • Provide level 4 (advanced) sales and strategic customer support
  • Training of demo labs (best known methods for use of the instrument on sector and guidance on best practices)
  • Support sales opportunities including carrying out demonstrations
  • Attend and present at conferences - globally

Your profile

  • Master degree in Materials Engineering / Material Sciences or similar
  • multiple years of work experience in a relevant field
  • Validated reports on applications trends
  • Job-to-be-done descriptions and use cases for the marketing requirements (MPRD) and Beta test & validation
  • Applications content for sales trainings, level 1 – 3 presentations and sales collaterals
  • Best demo practices sharing between the SSC’s/demo labs, sector-specific demo approaches
  • Thought leadership priorities (publications, conference contributions, and webinars).
  • Development of customer solutions and workflows
  • Publication of white papers, application and technical notes
  • Excellent spoken and written English and German
