ZEISS Digital Innovation Partners — based in Munich, Oberkochen and Jena — is collaborating with our business divisions to produce cutting-edge, customer-centric digital solutions. In Munich, we are seeking a: Head of Online Design System and User Research

An empathetic leader with refined interpersonal skills, this position is responsible for growing ZEISS’ new Digital Innovation Partners branch. Digital transformation’s learning curve requires patience, understanding and resourceful thinking, and this role is a considered response to that need.

Responsibilities include:

  • Being fully responsible for a team of UX/UI designers, front-end engineers and user research specialists. Establish a common, cross- divisional language that facilitates communication between those with disparate expertise, backgrounds and goals. Recognize opportunities to transform conflict into productive conversation.
  • Maintaining and extending our Online Design System in an agile setup, and promoting it across all ZEISS business units.
  • Supporting the adoption of UX/UI development and User Research methodologies within ZEISS business functions.
  • Maintaining a top-level, holistic understanding of the business in order to strike a balance between engineering, business and design collaborators. A calm mediator, you’re able to inspire, guide and align design and engineering teams in order to build a consistent, brand-defining ecosystem of conceptually sound, dynamic customer experiences.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Experience (5+ years) leading interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience in design and implementation for front-end web technologies (e.g., React, Angular, Responsive Design) and content management platforms (e.g., Adobe Experience Manager)
  • A Master’s degree in Interaction Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or equivalent work experience
  • Confidence in writing, speaking and presenting in both English and German. Comfortable communicating the value of design within a design and business context
  • Passion for further developing a great team and working in an interdisciplinary, agile environment
