Junior Design Thinking / User Research Specialist (f/m/x)

Your role at ZEISS Digital Innovation Partners

As a Junior Design Thinking Specialist / User Research Specialist, you smartly fuse research methods from different approaches such as design thinking, service design and usability research. Your first project experiences prove your ability to help develop the optimal method mix (ideally qualitative and quantitative) for individual project challenges, and the skillset to conduct user research empathically and successfully. You will play a crucial role helping to expand our Design Thinking and customer research capabilities at the Digital Innovation Partners unit, to scale our approach within ZEISS, and to fuel ongoing innovation cycles. You will actively contribute to the digital transformation at ZEISS through close collaboration with the ZEISS business groups and their respective departments. Collaboration between international, interdisciplinary teams and roles such as researchers, designers, business experts and engineers is a critical precondition for our work – and you have the required open mindset.

Guided and empowered by experienced seniors and teams, you take on well-defined work packages and contribute to research studies hands on, including tasks like:
  • definition of research questions, hypotheses and plans based on a scope
  • desktop research
  • write interview guidelines, guided by seniors
  • participants’ recruiting activities / orga
  • user research (in context and remotely), e.g. conduct qual. interviews
  • synthesis of key insights / observations
  • preparation and moderation of workshops, e.g. ideation
  • presentations within ZEISS / (cross-)functional exchange
  • all this, with a passion to translate research insights into designs – and ultimately implemented solutions.

You have:

  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience in research on user experience / design thinking for products and services within highly collaborative environments for customer centric organizations / inhouse or agency experience
  • Natural curiosity and interest in topics related to ZEISS business units (such as medical, vision care or metrology – please take a look at our website)
  • First-hand experience with user research / testing techniques and tools, leveraging latest tools (such as miro, userzoom, mobile video journals etc.)
  • Skills in writing, moderation and presentation, conveying key observations with clear, precise and compelling storytelling
  • Beyond qualitative research techniques, basic quantitative research experience is a plus
  • At least a bachelor’s degree in design, psychology, anthropology or similar professional fields, or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency in English and ideally in German as well
