Staff Technical Writer

The Staff Technical Writer will create and edit Information for Use (IFU) documents and other end-user documents localized into multiple languages. Your responsibilities will also include processing change orders and managing documents through a lifecycle management system. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter who quickly ramps up on product knowledge and team integration

We are looking for people who are keen to try something new:

• Develop a thorough understanding of ophthalmic diagnostic devices and software applications to produce effective, well-written user manuals.
• Create a project plan, which includes authoring, review, and release documentation activities.
• Interview subject matter experts to produce user documents that conform to the company, regulatory, quality standards, and clinical user needs.
• Independently lead multiple, concurrent customer-facing documentation projects and balance tight product schedules according to company priorities.
• Drive streamlining technical writing and localization processes, and lead continual improvement activities for the team.
• Improve editorial standards for documentation and recommend new standards, as needed.
• Manage localization for additional language aspects; exporting documents for translation, importing translated documents, and coordinating corresponding localized UI images.
• Comply with relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and closely monitor needed extensions to maintain regulatory compliance.
• Proactively communicate with all relevant parties and manage timelines and deadlines for documentation projects.
• Assign tasks and coach contract technical writers.

• Provides regular updates to all stakeholders, management and partners on project status and progress being made.

• Reports to R&D management.
• Works as part of cross-functional teams that include: Hardware & Software Engineering, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, UI / UX, Clinical, Quality, Software Test, Project Management, Document Control and Production staff.

You are:

(Bona Fide Occupational Requirements, such as education, certification, and/ or skills that are necessary to do the job.)
• BA in Technical Writing, English, Journalism or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum of seven years of technical writing experience producing customer-facing product documentation (User Guides or IFU, Online Help, Quick Start Guides, Installation Manuals, Release Notes, etc.)
• Minimum of five years (proven expertise) using Adobe FrameMaker to produce and maintain large documents (200+ pages) demonstrating proficiency in setting up and using master pages, complex cross-referencing, conditional text, content variables, glossaries and indexes.
• In-depth knowledge of DITA / XML / HTML / SGML coding, linking, and formatting concepts.

• Ability to work independently and balance simultaneous projects adhering to tight schedules.
• Experience with Schema ST4.
