Your tasks

- The Tooling Technician is responsible for the care of all tooling as well as the related items within the extrusion department. The incumbent is responsible for all tooling issues, assisting with coordination of outside vendors related to tooling repair.
- Maintains the central tooling storage area to GF standards following the 5-S guidelines.
- Cleans, inspects, and preserves tooling at end of production run.
- Returns tooling to designated areas after inspection.
- Reads and comprehends work orders to prepare tooling for pre-staging.
- Identifies tooling damage or issues and works with maintenance to rectify.
- Makes new heater band extension cords as needed
- Replaces burnt cord caps on existing heater-bands and extensions
- Inspects heater bands for damage and repairs/replaces as needed.
- Maintains a tooling inventory tracking tooling as it is in-use, in-storage, out for in-house repair, out for vendor repair.
- Works directly with Extrusion Technicians to identify tooling issues and works diligently to rectify the issues within a timely manner.
- Helps training Extrusion Technicians in proper tool handling, installation, removal and transportation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Your profile

- Basic understanding of Electrical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair systems using LOTO procedures.
- Ability to read and comprehend Technical Manuals for various types of manufacturing equipment.
- Good computer skills (Office software, CMMS and CAD preferred)
- Basic mechanical aptitude or interest in working with machinery.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow processes and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with determining necessary tool accuracy to be appropriate with given tolerances.
- Strong understanding of and ability to apply measurement methods to inspection and/or testing.
- Excellent understanding of thermoplastic materials.
- Excellent understanding of tool shop operations (machining, grinding etc.).
- Excellent understanding of tooling for extrusion and the manufacturing process.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s degree in engineering preferred.
- Five (5) years Extrusion / Tooling experience preferred.
- Experience working in fast pace, high change environment.
- Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
- Exposure to machine noise.
- Typical office/factory environment with possibility of exposure to heat in production area.
- Working conditions are normal for a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds and working in and around heavy equipment.
- Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to, eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, and work boots.
- This role may require walking in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
