Main Tasks

- Manual material processing, filing, marking, scribing, punching, and how it relates to machine operation.
- Use of manual machines (lathe, drill, grinder) and be able to produce physical examples for successful completion of ICATT and Department of Labor tests.
- Obtain knowledge of the various GF technologies: Milling, EDM, and Laser.
- Assist an experienced Service Engineer with installing machines and associated products and equipment such as an electrical transformer, chiller, and fire extinguisher.
- Debugging and troubleshooting activities during start-up and optimizing the performance of machinery.
- Calibration of machines.
- Assist an experienced Service Engineer with performing preventative and corrective maintenance; diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions.
- Ensure that all tools and test equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.
Minimum Requirements

- High School diploma or GED before the beginning of the program; be enrolled or accepted at the Harper College Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Program.
- Interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and willingness to learn; reliable and self-motivated with good organizational and time management skills; mechanical and technical aptitude or prior hands-on experience with tools and machines.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Systems, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Great Plains or similar software programs is helpful.
- The apprentice must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and work on ladders and heights. This position requires the Field Service Engineer to regularly work irregular hours and frequently travel to customer and company locations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel when necessary.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
