Sputtering Components Inc. (SCI) in Owatonna, MN, is seeking a highly motivated professional Thin Film Applications Technologist.
Every day, millions of people around the world come into contact with products made using Sputtering Components equipment. Our thin film technologies are used in vacuum coating systems to make windows, smartphones, display screens, solar panels, automobile components, decorative hardware and more.
Our growing company is seeking to hire a Thin Film Applications Technologist who will be responsible for ensuring that customers receive the technical information and support which enables them to buy, effectively install, integrate, and use SCI products. You will become and be a subject matter expert on all SCI products and travel to customer sites to provide technical service and deliver product training (~25% travel).
You will work within our Engineering team and report to the Team manager Fulfillment & Project Execution.

- Act as a liaison between customers and engineering to ensure customer needs are defined and the correct SCI products are offered
- Provide product support at customer sites and remotely for integration, installation, training, and service for post installation product issues
- Support internal engineering team on complex production projects
- Develop and deliver product training at SCI Reps, OEMs, and SCI’s customers locations
- Create, implement, and train internally on all product procedures
- Participate in the development of new products and applications
- Promote SCI products
- Additional technical projects as assigned
- 4-year engineering degree or 5+ years’ experience in the vacuum coating industry
- 5+ years’ work experience working directly with magnetron cathodes, processes, and applications
- Keen attention to detail
- Must have great organizational skills and be able to multi-task across products and sites
- Proven excellent written, verbal, and presentations skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Project), Solidworks experience a plus
- Experience with industrial controls and automation is a plus
- Must be able to travel up to 25-50% domestically and internationally
