Sputtering Components Inc, is seeking an R&D Manager who is passionate about driving innovation and excellence. In this role, you will be responsible for the company’s R&D strategy to strengthen and widen our competitive advantage in the rotary sputtering cathode market. You will lead the R&D team to create new products and concepts, improve existing products and support our customers in their product trials. The R&D Manager will work closely with Sputtering’s Business Development team to analyze the market and to understand customer demands.

  • Responsible for leading a team of up to ~5 employees
  • Ensure quality and compliance with group processes, methods and tools, as well as compliance with international standards
  • Identify & assign resources to projects and other tasks within the team’s responsibility (e.g. technology portfolio management, lifecycle management); ensure a proper work balancing within the different teams
  • Regularly monitor work progress and take appropriate actions to manage deviations
  • Ensure timely and accurate forecasting and identify risks and opportunities
  • Foster transparency and openly discuss potential issues and their direct impact on ongoing projects
  • Advise team members, and work closely with them to develop corrective action plans
  • Ensure collection and implementation of lessons learned / best practices beyond locations; Identify opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure high level of data quality within the team’s projects and tasks
  • Administrative activities such as approval of travel requests of direct reports
  • Supervise, support and coach the team members
  • Lead and motivate the team by establishing an open and broad communication of the principles, objectives, processes & tools
  • Team talent development and succession planning
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in e.g. Engineering, IT
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in R&D in relevant discipline (mechanical, electrical, PLS software, software solutions, service and/or technology)
  • Agile methodology education is a plus
  • Industry and technology knowledge of Bühler portfolio, and/or similar competitors’ products and services, relevant for the business area
  • Understanding of business administration, supply chain and financial aspects
  • Team management experience is preferred
  • Experience using systems such as MS Project, M-CAD, E-CAD, PDM, and Azure DevOps is preferred
  • Experience in leading and managing development projects effectively within matrix organisation
  • Fluent in English (level B2 or equivalent), additional languages are a plus
  • Proficiency with IT tools such as MS Office
