Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) is responsible for fulfilling a variety of tasks to support the daily operations of the HR Department. These duties include full employee life-cycle assistance and administering HR policies and procedures in accordance with US labor laws. The HRG is expected to be a conceptual thinker with strong organizational and conflict management skills. The diversity of responsibilities is vast, involving anything from employee recruitment and onboarding to benefits administration and employee communications.

Your responsibilities

  • Schedule and facilitate a smooth new hire onboarding process, educating newly hired employees on HR policies, internal procedures and regulations, coordinating with cross-functional departments to deliver an exceptional first-day experience
  • Handle all administrative tasks for new hires including entering data into HR information systems and auditing for accuracy and compliance
  • Maintain physical and digital employee files and their related documents
  • Collaborate with outside providers (i.e., benefits administrators, search firms, vendors)
  • Investigate complaints and grievances brought forward by employees
  • Take appropriate disciplinary action when an employee violates Company rules and regulations
  • Produce and submit reports on general HR activity
  • Assist with the recruitment process conducting reference checks and ensuring relevant pre-employment background screens have been completed
  • Assist in administering benefits, compensation, and employee performance programs
  • Suggest new procedures and policies to continually improve efficiency of the HR department and organization as a whole and to improve the employee experience and morale
  • Ensure legal compliance of HR state and federal regulations and applicable employment laws, and update policies and/or procedures as required
  • Serve as HR advisor to employees in relation to absence and health issues, grievance matters, organizational changes and other employee-relations matters
  • Oversee payroll processing for the variety of payrolls on the relevant frequencies
  • Be responsible for tracking vacation/sick pay and hourly employee time and attendance
  • Assist in the communication, interpretation and upkeep of employee handbook, employee directory, and organizational charts

Your qualifications

  • Deep understanding of Labor Law and employment equity regulations
  • Efficient HR administration and people management skills
  • Analytic skills a plus
  • Fantastic knowledge of HR functions and best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Works comfortably under pressure and meets tight deadlines
  • Superb computer literacy with capability in email, MS Office and related HR software
  • Strong organizational and conflict management skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related preferred or 2-3 years of experience as an HR coordinator or similar role
  • Two to three years’ experience in Human Resources Department preferred
  • SHRM or HRCI certification is a plus
  • Experience with ERP systems a plus
